They set off flying but it is just open space after the city, so they quickly decide that the spire is the better option for resting. They investigate if the spire is safe, disable a few traps, find some gold coins, some notes that Heskeni eagerly takes and 4 golden needles emanating magic that Adaly pockets.
Amara still makes a scouting circle around the spire, ensuring they are safe, and Adaly inspects the needles. She discovers that once she inserts herself with a needle, she gains a bit of foresight, making it harder for others to attack her. Once Amara is back, she shares the needles between the two of them.
The party goes to play some card games “So how old are you?” Adaly just blatantly asks Livia. Livia blushes “I am 213 years of age… and you” “damn… I think I am 30, not sure when I am born, so a bit hard to know my exact age” Adaly smiles, and then looks at Sam “And you?” Sam rubs his neck, clearly uncomfortable sharing information, he sighs “I am 35, and you Heskeni and Amara” “I am a 101” Heskeni says, and Adaly spits out her drink at that, this childlike person being that old, damn. Amara just chuckles and says “I am 36” “So Jeremy is the youngest, he is only 29” Livia smiles.
Adaly continues the conversation “So how long have the three of you know each other, or have been working together?” “About 5 years” Livia smiles and then stops, clearly hiding something “Come on we are working together we can share personal things” Adaly says but Sam jumps in “We are just working together, let’s just trust each other’s capabilities, more we don’t need to know” “Buzzkill” Adaly comments, and Sam just stares her down. Quickly after they go to sleep.
In the morning Adaly joins Livia in looking at the sunrise once more. The elf seems to enjoy watching the sunrise. Adaly doesn’t mind, and has noticed that Livia is more willing to share than Sam. In contrast to Sam Adaly does like to know as much as she can about her party members, and the fact that she basically knows nothing annoys her.
They are sitting at the edge of the massive building, “A sane person would be terrified of this height” Adaly jokes and Livia smiles at her says “I don’t know, heights have never bothered me” Adaly smiles back “Ever since I know how to slow my falling, me neither, but I think before that time I was not this comfortable.” Livia nods in understanding and still is clearly keeping something back. “You can trust me, I do like it better if we are honest to each other…” Adaly says, but Livia kindly smiles and says, “Sam wouldn’t approve.” Shutting down the conversation.
They start flying once more and shortly after takeoff Adaly gets a message from Jeremy ‘Note longer than message. Addressed to Adaly from “future ally”, says “know what you are planning” and won’t talk to intermediates. Continuing previous tasks.’ Adaly replies ‘Good morning, how are you feeling? This does sound like they don’t know your plan, seeing as you are not intermediate. Update about Certevilla? Love Adaly.’
When the group reaches the location of the library, there is nothing there, just an abandoned hill. Adaly messages Amara ‘It was supposed to be here’ and Amara quickly replies, ‘yes but this hill is an exact copy of the hill we passed an hour ago, so either we are flying in circles, or something is here.’ Adaly messages all of them to land here, and they look around.
Now paying closer attention, Adaly can clearly see the illusion. Adaly pierces the illusion threshold and sees the massive library, a black stone building with nine wings, but also notices hundreds of gargoyles sitting on it scanning the area. She quickly does a step back “So… good news first, we are at the correct location… Bad news, many many guards, stone gargoyles. Let me invisibly try to pass them and see what is at the end” The party all nod in agreement and Adaly turns invisible, walking up to the library.
The gargoyles all ignore her, but once she enters a skeleton in green robe stares directly at her, as if the invisibility does nothing. She swallows not wanting to face this threat alone she just says “Hi… I will be right back” and the skeleton nods in agreement.
Adaly leaves the door open but rushes back to the party “Minor other complication, there is a skeleton in the library. He didn’t attack me but could see through the invisibility.”
“Shit so what do we do?” Amara asks and Adaly thinks for a second “rush in on the wyverns, I left the door open” Adaly suggests and the party once more nods in agreement. They quickly fly in however the gargoyles just stay on their perches, not paying too much attention to them.
The wyverns come to a skidding halt in the polished stone floor of the library entrance, they all step off of their mounts when a booming voice starts “The Great Library of Grishbalan welcomes Lady Amara Drogar, Major in the Orodon Fighting Forces and special deputy lieutenant of the Wearish crown, Lady Heskeni Wildcord, Mythseeker of the Vasovik Archeologist guild, Lady Adaly, the Angel of Death, special deputy lieutenant of the Wearish crow and Lord Mathew Valesquez, paladin of the Order of the Shadowed Blade and special deputy lieutenant of the Wearish crown” but the skeleton ignores Livia in full.
The skeleton continues “I am the head curator of the library, how may I help you?” Adaly steps forward “We would like entrance to your legendary library, could we enter?” she asks, and the skeleton looks them all over.
“If you pay the fee of course. The fee is either 10.000 Grishbalan crowns, if you don’t have that amount, we do take materials of an equivalent value.” The skeleton says and Adaly looks at their party. “So… what if we don’t have that amount at hand?” Adaly asks.
The skeleton looks at Sam for a second and then back at her “We also take 40 healthy humanoids to fuel the library or take a high-level soul for serving the library. We do have the possibility for a debtor’s mark for yourself in promise to serve the library in your death or after a year pass. Matthew’s condition does disqualify him for this.” Adaly looks even more surprised at Sam. Their party member lied about his name and apparently has some kind of condition but does not pry yet.
The party look at each other and Adaly grabs some of her magical items, and Amara follows suit. “We are not sure how much these items are worth, could you let us know?” The skeleton nods in agreement and takes the stuff and leaves them alone for a bit. Adaly rubs her head “So Matthew, what is up with that?” “Not here” he just replies, Adaly rolls her eyes but goes to sit on the floor and starts her spying spell again.
She connects to Es-Grenalieth. Adaly sees a room she has not seen before, with a young woman in front of her. The woman is trying to attack Es-Grenalieth but keeps missing her attacks. Es-Grenalieth laughs “You have to try harder dear. You are in over your head.” Which entices the young woman even more, but she keeps failing her hits.
Adaly doesn’t care about this stranger, so she shifts to her sister. The black tiefling lays in bed, throwing a knife, but catching it before she hits herself. After a minute she gets up and walks over the rooftops of a city. She enters a building, there are 2 white golems that Adaly knows are Es-Ihirokeths minions, and a dwarf “Hello Tobias” she says and the dwarf nods in acknowledgement “Hello Yigadel, you are looking for information about Adaly yes?” Yigadel nods, “Good, she has lost something, something…” and the spell ends.
Fuck Adaly curses, she doesn’t want to spend another spell on this, but it is always annoying if she only gets half information. She rubs her head ones more. “My siblings are working together with Es-Ihiroketh, the general that also gave me the pearl” Adaly says and at that moment the head curator reenters the entry way.
“So, several of these items are of no value. These boots are worth about 100 crowns. The two Ioun stones are worth 1750 crowns and the wayfinder 750 crowns. So, this would not cover the entry fee. So how would you like to pay for the entry?”
