“So, which of these chambers is yours?” Anita hears in the darkness. She was sitting down, sobbing, not sure where she was when she heard her own voice asking questions. “Who are you?”
Light comes in. It is like she is in a dark chamber with a window on one side, in the window she sees her own face, looking down at her. She recognizes her parents’ home. Whoever is inhabiting her body starts chuckling.
“Sweetheart, I am you… well I was a witch, but now… I am you. So, which one of these is your room?” Her window starts moving around, and she sees the hallway on the first floor.
“The one on the left.” she says, a bit defeated. She stands up and touches the window, it is clear she is in her own home, but she is still helpless. They walk into her chamber and the woman puts her on the desk.
Anita’s body goes around the room, but Anita herself looks before asking “So… what do you want?” Her body chuckles once more while it grabs her diary and starts reading. “Darling, I have what I want, a body. Now it is just a matter of figuring out how to blend in.” “What about me?” Anita asks, panicking.
Theodora laughs, reading Anita’s diary. Ah the sister’s name is Bella, that’s good to know! The screaming and crying of Anita is annoying to hear, but that’s a small price to pay for being able to live again.
She and her boyfriend Teddy seem to genuinely love each other, so sad for him. She thinks he is cute, so she will stay with him, but she needs more than just one man. It is interesting to learn that Anita is a student in biology. Theodora used to be an herbalist, and her magic helped her learn about the human body, so that is something she can pick up.
A bell rings, startling Theodora. A few seconds later Bella yells “Pizza is here!” and Theodora walks down, away from the screaming Anita. Theodora goes towards her sister, chatting, bonding, pretending everything is normal.
Late in the evening, her parents come home, and nobody seems to be the wiser, she can pull this off, she will live her life, finally after all these years.
A few weeks pass by, the classes are doable, but it is weird to have to study. Her parents are worried about her change in eye color, but she’s managed to convince them that it is a hormone thing. She bluffed saying she learned about it in class, and they believed it.
Her parents got her a car, so when she goes to live with her future husband she can still come and visit, and Theodora is slowly getting better at the whole driving thing.
Teddy seems to like the increase in intimacy, but Theodora is also having an affair with a female classmate of hers, since she wants to live to the fullest. Anita is still loud and yelling, which sometimes gives her a migraine. She needs to get rid of the human soul, this is her body now.
“It’s just… it is so hard and suboptimal to play a druid… let’s just give her a dramatic end and afterward I will play like a cleric.” Theodora tries to convince Teddy. Teddy shakes his head.
“We just started this campaign, killing her now, it just… it feels wrong. Maybe we can rule she got a call from the forest, and she left. But killing her…”
Theodora feels herself getting annoyed. Walking away is not good enough, she needs her character to die to get rid of the soul. “Narratively that wouldn’t make sense. She wanted to be an adventurer, let her have an adventurer’s death. One that a cleric tries to prevent but is just too late and then that cleric joins the party”
Teddy rubs his hand on his head. “Fine… next session you will run into some wolves, and I will make sure they target the pretty red head”
Theodora smiles and kisses her boyfriend. “Thank you” she whispers. He stands up and continues rubbing his head “It is the last session before the wedding, so it is cool if something dramatic happens…”
She smiles at him, she is impressed how he manages to restrain himself around her. She bites her lip. “Yes, dramatic is good, now I must go. See you tomorrow!” Teddy hugs her and kisses her once more before she leaves the apartment and goes to her parents’ house.
She lays in her bed, in her almost empty room. Most of her stuff packed and ready to move towards Teddy’s home. The dice still laying on the desk “Hello my dear, how are you doing?” Anita is sobbing in a corner in her prison. Theodora rolls her eyes. “It shall be over soon darling…”
She can feel Anita’s eyes looking up towards her “What? What is going to happen?” Theodora chuckles. “You shall die…” Anita starts screaming and sobbing and Theodora laughs, feeding on the desperation.
She is not like the hags in the game they have been playing, she does not live for desperation, but sometimes it is a nice sensation. She would never risk keeping Anita alive just for that kick, though.
Sleep quickly finds her after that, even though Anita is screaming her head off and the next day she is eager to start playing the game again. Finally, truly being free.
