During their walk Adaly hands the notebook containing the information about becoming a devil to Sam, telling him to distribute it if anything happens to them. It would be very damaging for Es-Grenalieth if that information got out, so Adaly expects her sister to be compliant with this threat.
The party teleports to Ingry, and Adaly turns herself and Amara immediately invisible. When they walk out of the entryway she sees Arav, who is approaching the party. “I would like to talk to Adaly…” Arav says, and Sam reacts “Well she is not with us, so maybe you can see her later.” Arav rolls his eyes “I know you’re here, we would like to talk, meet us in the tavern across from the teleportation hall.”
Adaly and Amara both just continue walking and invisibly, ignoring Arav, making their way to the edge of the mist. Near the edge she gets a message from Sam through the sending stone ‘There are 2 people from Certevilla with the king, claim to know you. Not sure who they are, a human woman and elven man.’ Adaly swallows, that could be concerning but is for a later moment ‘Acknowledged, almost at the mansion. We shall see you later.’
In the mist Adaly drops the invisibility, but nothing bothers them. When they reach the mansion there are a few warlocks waiting for them and one lady in particular asks “Please wait here.” Adaly and Amara give each other a look and continue walking. “Wait, you are not supposed to walk in.” the warlock yells and Adaly just says, “We know where we need to go, thank you. Just need to talk to Es-Grenalieth.” And the two of them walk to the library.
They open the door and Es-Grenalieth is in the chamber with a few warlocks. “Adaly, what a surprise. What brings you here?” Es-Grenalieth says and narrows her eyes. Adaly smiles widely “Hello Es-Grenalieth, good to see you again. Can I ask if we have a conversation in private? Without your warlocks?” Es-Grenalieth nods in agreement and the warlocks leave them alone while Adaly goes to sit comfortably on the couch. Amara keeps standing, she is not actively in defensive mode but does hold her hand on her halberd.
A mist starts filling the room “I expect she already knows?” Es-Grenalieth asks and Adaly replies “Of course sister, I have no secrets for Amara.” Es-Grenalieth shifts her shape towards her black tiefling form. “What brings you here? Little sis?” Es-Grenalieth says almost sarcastically. Adaly chuckles “I just came to see if we can help each other… I started the campaign against your warlocks, but I do not want to harm you. So, what can we do to help you reach your goal?”
Es-Grenalieth chuckles. “I don’t believe you….” Adaly goes to sit up, and becomes more serious “This is nothing personal, big sis… It is just your warlocks… They harmed one of my allies. It is bad practice to let that go unpunished, don’t you think? Next to that I have killed devils for smaller transgression, if I let this one slip, Ilhoketh will immediately realize we are working together.” Adaly says as Es-Grenalieth’s eyes narrow.
“So, what is the plan now?” Es-Grenalieth asks. Adaly goes to sit back again, just appearing relaxed. “How much time do you need? To get the crest?” Es-Grenalieth looks at her in surprise but keeps quiet, so Adaly continues “Once more, this is nothing personal. If you get the crest or not, I couldn’t care less, however the fact that you have not evacuated this place is a clear sign it is important to you, so let me help you.”
“I need another day” Es-Grenalieth replies, and Adaly laughs “I cannot do that, I can buy you a few hours, so what? This evening, at midnight? What works best?” Es-Grenalieth looks at Amara for a second and then looks back at Adaly “Give me one reason I am not killing you right now?”
Adaly laughs, showing she is in full control “Because killing me results in Ilhoketh finding out you have escaped his firm grasp. I don’t think that is going to be pleasant for you…” “How?” “I have given the notebook to my allies. If we don’t return, they will distribute the information and give the notebook to the ebony guard. It will not immediately reach him of course, but this is very risky for you… I am sad to say sister, you overplayed your hand.”
Es-Grenalieth looks grumpy, clearly considering her options “So what do you want?” Adaly smiles and goes to sit up again “As I said, this is nothing personal. I would like to honor our previous agreement. We have a common enemy, let us deal with him together… Next to that, as you have probably realized by now, I never actually got the offer. That is such a shame, but we just killed his best candidate, so I would like you to whisper my name in his ear.”
Es-Grenalieth thinks about it for a second. “Fine, give us till midnight. Then you will find an empty mansion and our deal is still on.” Adaly chuckles “That is not acceptable. As I said, I do need to make someone pay for hurting my ally. Your warlocks need to stay behind and die. Taking a few with you is acceptable, as long as you spray around some ashes, we can convince them that I disintegrated them”
Adaly sees the annoyance on Es-Grenalieth’s face but is also aware that Es-Grenalieth has no better option than what Adaly now provides them with. “I will take my most loyal 4 with me. That does include the kidnapper. Is that acceptable for you?” Es-Grenalieth almost spits out and Adaly smiles and nods in agreement “Of course, it is about appearances, not actual revenge. If I actually wanted revenge, you would already be dead.”
Adaly stands up and puts out her hand. Es-Grenalieth gives Adaly a death stare but shakes it. “I guess I should be proud, my little sister is all grown up.” And shifts her face back to her elven shape and politely smiles. “I look forward to us working together, now if we still want to be on time for the meeting, we should teleport back” Adaly still comments, and Es-Grenalieth leads them to the courtyard, splitting the mist and allowing them to teleport to Ingry.
