Heskeni immediately approaches the party “When are we going to the vault?” Adaly chuckles, wiping some of the Leviathan blood off herself. “We will go there tomorrow to make is safe, then we still have to ask permission, so at earliest you will be able to go there the 36th. But we do have something else to do in the meantime. First could you give us an explanation on the Ioun stones we bought?” “Oh yes…” Heskeni starts ranting about all the different abilities the Ioun stones have.
One of the Ioun stones is an Ioun stone of warmth, which Amara eagerly takes. Adaly starts collecting her notes and hands them to Heskeni “We found more notes of this thing, I shared some before, but now we need your help to figure the details out.” Heskeni immediately grabs them from Adaly’s hands and starts hanging them against a tree.
Adaly starts correcting them, hanging them as the order was in the amulet and starts explaining. “So, we learned it is a bomb… a twilight bomb. It uses the Leviathans power for charging, but we need to know what the blast zone is and the trigger. This is how the runes were ordered.” Heskeni eagerly nods.
Now that Heskeni is distracted, Adaly looks at Amara and Sam, she swallows. “Amara and Sam could the three of us take a walk” and both of them nod and stand up, following her into the woods. Adaly activates her see invisibility, trying to see if someone is keeping an eye on them.
When they are in the clear Adaly stops, leaning against a tree, looking down “I… we need a plan on getting into the citadel unharmed… I…” she stops, she doesn’t like her plan, but dumb ideas have seemed to work in her favor. Sam and Amara both look at her but give her the space. “Before you judge me, I know it is a bad idea. However, we do not have a better one at this moment.”
Adaly brings herself to look at her loved ones “If we can convince Ilhoketh that I should be the target of the ritual…” “How?” Amara reacts, and Sam starts to think about the implications. Adaly swallows “I can contact him…” Amara shakes her head and starts pacing. Sam takes a step closer, gently grabbing her arm “I think that would not be smart, but if you really want to do it… I will not stop you.” Adaly swallows, nods in thanks.
“This is so dumb. There is no upside, this is just risking everything for nothing.” Amara reacts and Adaly rubs her head “I agree that it is a dumb idea, but dumb ideas have been working for us.” She jokes, but Amara keeps looking serious at her “No, this is next level dumb.” Adaly nods “Okay, then I will not do it.” And with that they walk back to camp.
Adaly agrees with them that it is dumb, and possibly not worth it. But she does think they should consider all options, and this was one. They will try to figure out a different way in, and if they can’t Adaly will contact him anyway.
Adaly goes to sit at a distance from the fire and starts casting devil’s eyes, and the spell only manages to connect to Josenno. Her vision shifts to a basement looking at the portal towards the vault. Es-Grenalieth is standing next to him, Mateo is explaining to them “We are really close, but we will need another day…” Es-Grenalieth nods in understanding “I will pierce the last layer myself”. Mateo nods and Es-Grenalieth and Josenno walk back, revealing the passage towards the vault.
Es-Grenalieth and Josenno walk outside to the mist. Josenno continues their conversation “So tomorrow the kingdom is intending on attacking, how shall we deal with that?” Es-Grenalieth chuckles “They are a minor inconvenience. We need to buy some time, but I will support the fighting of course. And if Adaly shows up… I will deal with her and her minions personally.” Es-Grenalieth goes back inside while Josenno checks up on the mistfiends.
Adaly comes back to her own body, and even though it is still early in the day the party is all exhausted and Adaly curls next to Sam and falls asleep.
Adaly wakes up early the next morning, Heskeni hovering over her. Adaly holds her finger up to her mouth, indicating Heskeni should be quiet, giving Sam some more time for sleeping. Adaly signals Amara and Livia to join and sit a bit further away from Sam “So it is actually 2 bombs in one, or at least it will cause two separate explosions. The first explosion collects all sin and grace nearby and the second explosion will cause a shockwave dismissing all magic in its path. The second shockwave spreads through the ethereal plane, so it doesn’t get blocked by walls and objects.” Heskeni starts talking and Livia sits down, Adaly wants to reply, but Heskeni continues.
“It can charge if it is connected to sin or grace, but that is just for the first blast. The second blast will need a source of grace and sin nearby to do anything. There are multiple triggers. It starts a countdown once it is within 300 feet of whatever the target is. I couldn’t find what is the target, but maybe you know.” Heskeni pauses and Adaly shakes her head “Not yet, but that is something we should be able to figure out” Heskeni eagerly starts nodding “Yes, can you tell me how?”
Adaly chuckles “Not yet, but you said something about a countdown and other triggers?” Heskeni nods and continues “Yes, the countdown is 8 hours. After that, kaboom. Also this feels like a mistake, but the spell has also a trigger when you come within 5 feet of the target. So good to avoid. If you leave the range of the target, 3000 feet away it will blow. Also, if a devil still connected to sin touches it, it will go boom.”
Adaly leans against a tree and nods, going over the information “The bomb is now charging with a Leviathan heart, if we kill the Leviathan, will it stop charging?” Heskeni looks back at her notes “Oh no that doesn’t matter. Now are we going to the vault, or do I get to see the bomb?”
Adaly looks at Livia and then back at Heskeni. “We will deal with our mission first, and maybe after. The vault, we will let Jeremy know tomorrow if we succeeded or not. Amara can you…. I need to talk to Sam.” Adaly says and Amara takes the hint, distracting Heskeni.
